ADMINISTRATIVE/STKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT DESK
1. CPG UPDATES
Career progression will be scrapped at the end of June 2026. TSC has been holding public participation sittings where teachers from various counties were accorded an opportunity to present their views on the review. Equally, the national office presented their views.
2. As a branch, we are soon launching the information management system. This will streamline communication between the union and the members on a wide variety of issues and also help to monitor career progression/stagnation of teachers.
3. Plans are underway to purchase an office for the union. Since this requires approval from the secretary general of the union, consultations and involvement of different stakeholders are ongoing. The acquisition of a new office will improve the public image of the union and enhance the coordination of the union's activities and operations.
4. The union, through the national leadership, secured Ksh8.4B for the 2nd phase of the CBA from 1st July 2026. The union is still negotiating for the remaining Ksh8.4B, as it was declared by the president during a State House visit in 2024 to make it Ksh16 B.
5. The union pushed for confirmation of 44k interns, but the government agreed to confirm 20000 interns. However, the push to confirm the remaining 24000 interns is still on.
6. Kuppet Nairobi Branch was the first branch to hold a meeting with the Nairobi SHA regional officials handling Mwalimu cover to address challenges faced by teachers whenever they sought for medical services.
As a result of our joint meeting, we established SHA HELP DESK, a joint initiative between Kuppet Nairobi, Knut Nairobi, and SHA Nairobi regional office. Since its establishment, the SHA help desk has been instrumental in addressing issues faced by teachers when they visit the hospitals in almost real time. The initiative was a game changer when it comes to addressing the medical welfare of our teachers.
In case you face any challenge while seeking medical attention in a SHA approved hospitals kindly reach out to the Executive Secretary (0720 539 011), Chairman, Treasurer, or any other BEC member via text message or WhatsApp, capturing your TSC no, name of the hospital, and the issue at hand for a quick response.
The union van is available for use by the teachers on request. In case of need, kindly contact the Executive Secretary, Chairman, or the Treasurer for guidance or booking.
The majority of the teachers who got employed in January and had salary arrears have already received their dues through union intervention.
The union has effectively handled 12 disciplinary issues by advocating for alternative dispute resolution mechanisms while at the same time encouraging strict adherence to professional ethics in our institutions.

GENDER DESK UPDATES
Since the inception of the Gender Help Desk with the help of the branch leadership, we have established strong links and collaborations with different stakeholders as well as individual professionals and non-governmental organizations to help in addressing gender issues and ensuring that gender concerns are integrated into union programs and activities. Some of the key stakeholders include:
TSC/MOE, Red Cross Nairobi County, Kenya Girl Guides Association, CITAM churches, and professional medical consultants, among others. Through this collaboration, the Gender Help Desk has been able to and continues to handle issues related to:
  • Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and workplace harassment through the creation of awareness.
  • Mental health awareness and psychosocial support for teachers through participation in mental health and counseling programs organized by our partners, such as CITAM churches.
  • Support for Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and dignity for girls by empowering women educators and schools with the necessary knowledge and information on how to handle this issue.
  • Proper family, parenting, and emotional well-being discussions among our educators.
  • Sensitization on gender equality, equity, and inclusion in schools and workplaces.
  • Supporting vulnerable teachers and families during illness, bereavement, and other challenges.
  • Championing the rights and welfare of teachers living with disabilities and other special needs through the 2nd Assistant Gender Secretary.
  • Supporting teachers' initiatives such as sports tournaments, teachers' choir, team building activities, and fun days geared towards promoting networking, social well-being, and empowerment through the 3rd assistant gender secretary.

WELFARE UPDATES
1. The welfare of Nairobi teachers is at the center of the union. Apart from the BBF committee, the union has brought on board different welfare groups (community welfare groups and Junior school Sub-county welfare groups) for teachers to constitute a welfare council. Each welfare group shall be represented in the Welfare Council by its Chairperson, who shall be the official link between the respective welfare group and the Welfare Council.
2. Membership Participation
All Nairobi teachers are encouraged to join a welfare group of their choice because in such a cosmopolitan environment as Nairobi, welfare groups remain the primary structures through which members receive organized support, engagement, and welfare services.
3. BBF Membership and Eligibility
Only KUPPET BBF members, that is, members contributing Ksh. 200 through the payroll deduction system shall qualify to benefit from the Branch Benevolent Fund (BBF). Access to BBF benefits shall be processed through the prescribed BBF Claim Forms and in accordance with the established BBF guidelines and procedures. Welfare leaders are therefore encouraged to maintain updated membership records and ensure active participation by their members.
4. Hospitalization Support Programme
Welfare Council members are required to promptly notify the Council of any hospitalization involving a member of their welfare group. Upon notification, the Union leadership shall organize a hospital visit and present the affected member with:
a). A fruit  voucher
b) A Union-customized "Get Well Soon" card.
This initiative is intended to demonstrate solidarity and support to members during times of illness.
5. Bereavement Support
If a bona fide and active welfare member is bereaved in a given welfare group, the union shall channel its bereavement support contribution of Ksh 5,000 through the respective welfare leadership. This is besides the BBF compensation.
A union-customized condolence card shall accompany all BBF bereavement cheque disbursements processed through BBF claim forms as a gesture of sympathy and solidarity.
We thank all welfare leaders and members. Together, we shall continue to build stronger structures and enhance support for our members whenever the need arises.
